I'm not a poet, but I went through a phase in early middle-school in which I liked to write lymericks. This is my first post here-I thought I might as well start with something.
The One-legged Sailor
There once was a one-legged sailor
Who bore the last name of Taylor.
He’d sit in his boat
And wish he could float,
For alas! He could not sail her.
Mack Marret
Have you heard of the boy named Mack Marret?
He has a long nose like a carrot.
He chatters all day
With nothing to say
In fact, he’s much like a parrot.

very good! i, for one, could never write a limerck. rhyming and syllables are tolerable in my book, but never favored. just like a limerck is supposed to be, these were witty or ridiculous, and certainly made me smiley on a cloudy New Jersey day.
Teehee, I love these! Very cute. Good job on the rhyming and rhythm.
Hehe, they made me chuckle. Actualy I didn't chuckle, I just smiled and felt happy but you get the picture. Very nice and cute, short poems are always fun. It's nice not to read poetry that's not depressing for once. Of course that's they only poetry I tend to write so I really shouldn't be talking... But anyways very cute. I like them a lot.
I can't tell you how pleased I am that y'all like them. (OMGosh, I said "y'all")
they were good!
I like the first one, it's funny.
These were great. Yeah, they were dead funny... I like the second one the best, great job. You should definately post some of your fantasy stories, I'm sure they're brilliant, and if not... Who cares? You'll probably get some reviews to make them better, mine aren't that good but I still posted them...
I don't usually comment on poetry because I'm not good at it at all.

I really liked these, nice and short. My favourite is the first.
They both made me chuckle. Pretty nice limericks. I've written a few and they're a bit better than mine. My favorite was probably the second one, but they both are nice.
I'm glad, Snoink!
Ooo... I love these poems!
My favorite is the first one (very clever, made me smile) but the second one is cool too. But the first one... awesomeness.
I looked it up before I answered the first time...and still didn't get it. *smacks forehead* Then I looked it up on a teacher's site, and now I understand. I think.

Oh my gosh, I KNEW this. Prose is anything that's not poetry! So yes, I don't write poetry now, I write prose. How embarrassing.
dictionary.com says:
prose ( P )
n.
1. Ordinary speech or writing, without metrical structure.
2. Commonplace expression or quality.
3. Roman Catholic Church. A hymn of irregular meter sung before the Gospel.
I think that children's stories fall under 1. Unless we're talking about a Dr. Suess sort of thing.
children's books are prose?
Please fill me in...
*shrug*

Random Areida curiosity. Just a part of moi.
Um... J. Haux... short stories ARE prose... just thought I'd mention that.
I'm happy that you like 'em, Ari.
The first one may have been a little later. I may have been 12.
No, I don't write prose...I've always written short stories, mostly fantasy, and I've been trying to write something long...and I'm failing. I *cough* need to develope a good plot. But I'm making a commendable effort!
Um...what made you ask?
Hee hee. I like them too.
I mean, they're not profound or life-altering or anything, but I like 'em. They're cute and definitely great material for have been written when you were ten or eleven.
Do you do prose now? Just wondering.
And the correct spelling is... LIMERICK. So I did spell it right... *smiles to self*
Thanks for coming, Dusky. Glad you liked them.
and if he ever (unlikely) came onto this site, I wouldn't want him to see the lymerick about him, although...maybe he would take it in good humor.
*shakes head vehemently and mouths "not me"*Well...I'm bored, is part of it. and the other part is trying to find an excuse NOT to get around to practicing...Oh wait. I already practiced. Whee! *relief*
I wrote the Mack Marret one in fourth/fifth grade. There was a boy whose name rhymes with Mack Marret who was in my class. He was annoying, then. He doesn't bug me as much now. But he did talk all the time, did his best to get under people's skin...and he would mimic everything you said, like a parot. I changed the name because I'm a nice person
Or to tell you that patience is a virtue? (<<<said jokingly)
)
Firstly, I know how wracking it can be to have to sit and wait for someone to comment on your work. I'm on pins and needles when I put something new up, but you need to just wait and see who shows up. If no one says anything after a week or so, then ask someone to stop in and say hi (usually a PM works well
Secondly, I enjoyed these. They're fun. Which is exactly what limericks should be (did I spell that right? *looks around for someone who's spelling is better than her own*).
And just out of curiousity... Who IS mack merret?
Or to inform me how badly I spelled limerick and how to spell it.
Could someone post? If only to say "Hi" or...I don't know. Ask about Mack Marret, who is based on a real person...
